Supplications During Sehri (Suhur)

Before we begin, it’s important to note that our Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) warned us against over-indulging in food or drink at breakfast time. He said it was from Shaytan’s handiwork and advised Muslims not to waste away valuable sleeping time before dawn by gorging themselves with food and drink. So try your best not to do so — but if you do, know that a little extra won’t hurt as long as you fast for an extra couple of hours later on in the day. If you’re up early for suhur, pray two rak’ats of namaz [prayer] and make dua for Allah’s protection throughout your day. This will help you avoid falling into sin and being prevented from doing good deeds. Here are some supplications you can recite while eating suhur: Bismillah [In the name of God]; Alhamdulillah [Praise be to God]; Allahu Akbar [God is great]; Alhamdu lillahi rabbilalamin [Praise be to God, Lord of all worlds]; Subhanallahi wal hamdu lillahi wa la ilaha illallahu wallahu akbar [Glory be to God! And Praise! And All Praise is due to God!
